ROUNDUP: EU baseball earns series win against MH

 East Union’s baseball team assured itself of a Valley Oak League series win Wednesday when it took care of Mountain House on the road, 11-5.

The Lancers (6-5 VOL, 12-9 overall) separated with five-run bursts in the third and seventh innings. They’ll host the best-of-3 finale on Friday.

Winning pitcher Blake Mount held the Mustangs (0-9, 4-14-1) scoreless in his four innings of work, which included two hits, one strikeout and no walks. He was relieved by George Mendoza (two innings) and Frankie Ostreicher (one inning).

Mount also keyed the attack, going 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Joe Alvarez went 2-for-2 with a run, and Kirk Simoni hit a double, scored twice and stole two bases. Randy Martinez contributed three RBIs.


Central Catholic 16, Manteca 5 (5)

In Modesto, Central Catholic (9-4 VOL, 13-6) did all of its damage in a devastating fourth-inning onslaught and evened this pivotal series with title implications.

Manteca (10-4, 17-5) led 1-0 in the middle of the fourth, then came up short of extending the game after scoring five in the fifth.

Eddie Anthony went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Buffaloes. Cameron Jimenez also belted a double.

Broden Thomas highlighted the Raiders’ 19-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one triple and four RBIs.


Linden 9, Sierra 3

Sierra (6-12) hosted the Mother Lode League leader for a non-league contest.

The visiting Lions (14-4) capitalized on five errors from the Timberwolves, as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead and didn’t look back.

Ricardo Anaya and Anthony Chapman Jr. each knocked in a run and scored one of their own for Sierra.


Ripon 6, Orestimba 1

In Newman, Ripon (3-4, 7-9 overall) rallied late to race away with a much-needed Trans Valley league win after dropping two losses to rival Ripon Christian last week.

Fabian Nuno did well to keep the Warriors (0-7, 3-18) at bay, striking out 11 over 5 2/3 innings. Hunter Weber took it from there, and he struck out two in the combined no-hitter.

Landon Espinola was a spark plug for the Indians’ offense, going 2-for-3 with two runs and three steals. Jack Peters also had two hits. Payton Marcotte drew a bases-loaded in the sixth inning for Orestimba’s run.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Manteca 3, Enochs 2

Mark Bondoc and Jesus Gomez each recorded double-doubles in the non-league match, helping the Buffaloes (17-6) escape Enochs (5-15) with a hard-earned 25-20, 17-25, 23-25, 25-14, 16-14 win.

Bondoc amassed 38 assists and 15 digs, while Jesus Gomez blasted 26 kills to go with 12 digs.

Middle blocker Rob Hevener added 10 kills and eight blocks. Libero Raclif Figueroa provided key serves and digs.


East Union 3, Oakdale 0

The Lancers (5-4, 10-6) coasted to the 25-19, 25-9, 25-12 VOL sweep on the road.

Guadalupe Reyes paced them with 17 assists, seven kills, 12 service points and five aces. Xavier Gaspar netted 11 kills, and Rohan Sachdeva served 12 points with two aces and a kill.


BOYS TRACK

Ripon 94, Hilmar 42

Logan Lefebvre won the 400 and long jump while helping Ripon win the 4x400 at Hilmar.

Marcus Madoski collected first-place points in the high and triple jumps. Nathan Gaines (200), Lucas de Vera (800), Daniel Lopez (shot put), William Verver (discus) and Eric Guevara (pole vault) each added one event win.


GIRLS TRACK

Hilmar 70, Ripon 66

The Indians came up short in a tightly-contested TVL track meet with title implications.

Freshman Olivia Ellis (100, 4x100, 4x400), Clara Scholland (400, 4x400, high jump) and Starla Skiles (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 4x400) did much of the scoring for Ripon. Shayla McKeon (shot put) and Alana Martinez (triple jump) each won a field event.

Christiana Lambdin shined for Ripon Christina in the three-team meet, winning the discus throw.


JV boys volleyball

Manteca 2, Enochs 0

The Buffaloes (15-6) held on for the 25-19, 25-21 non-league win.

Azan D’Anna led the attack with four kills, Quintin DeCosta had four blocks and Ryan Mu contributed from the service line and on defense.


East Union 2, Oakdale 0

East Union (8-7) made quick work of the host Mustangs, 25-9, 25-10.

Oliver Desjardins anchored the attack with four kills and two service aces. Kaleo Alviar handed out seven assists. Julian Khoonsrivong fired five aces. Urijah Lopez picked up six digs.
