ROUNDUP: East Union High girls win VOL soccer opener

Alexa Bretao, Emily Pires, and Gaby Heredia scored a goal each to help the East Union High girls varsity soccer team get past Patterson, 3-1, in Monday’s Valley Oak League opener.

Goalie Kadence Rossi had eight saves in the match played at Dino Cunial Field.

After dropping the Tigers (0-1 VOL, 3-3-2), the Lancers (1-0 VOL, 5-5-1) will look to continue their winning ways Wednesday at Mountain House (0-7-2).


East Union: 3 Patterson: 1

JV girls soccer East Union 4, Patterson 0

Leah Venegas and Sierra Dormer had two goals each in the Lancers’ shutout victory.

In the VOL opener, EU goalkeeper Makenna Miller was credited with the shutout.


GIRLS BASKETBALL

Atwater 63, East Union 51

The Lancers opened the week with a loss to visiting Atwater.

They’re scheduled to travel to Lincoln tonight in non-league play.

East Union (7-3) overcame a sluggish first half against the Falcons (9-2), closing the deficit to 41-40 entering the fourth.

Atwater outscored the Lancers, 19-8, in the final period to secure the win.


Ripon 42, Enochs 34

The Indians improved to 4-7 in nonleague play following their 42-34 victory at Enochs.

Scarlett Ponce netted 7 of her gamehigh 12 points in the second quarter while Leila Sanchez scored all 7 of her points in the first half.

Sanchez also had five assists and four steals with Shayla Mckeon collecting eight rebounds in the win.

Kymoni Beasley scored 10 points in the Lancers’ loss at Enoch.


Freshmen girls basketball

Atwater 36, East Union 11

The Falcons led 12-7 in the first half over host East Union before pouring it on in the final two quarters.

Elle Balbut led the Lancers with 4 points.
