Caliyah Lopez scored a touchdown on both sides of scrimmage, highlighting the East Union flag football team’s 28-2 Valley Oak League win at Central Catholic.
Lopez ran back an interception 60 yards for the defensive score. She was also one three players on the receiving end of a touchdown pass from quarterback Julianna Gaspar, who finished with 196 yards. Gwen Baker and Kaylee Mejia each had a TD catch.
Sophia Bretao and Baker tacked on points on conversion tries but were also defensive leaders with six tackles apiece. Baker added an interception. Emma Wisecarver recorded a pair of sacks.
The Lancers (8-2, 15-4 overall) cap their regular-season schedule next week against Manteca on Tuesday and Thursday.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Oakdale 3, East Union 2
In Oakdale, the Lancers (2-6 VOL, 4-10 overall) dropped their fifth straight match in heart-breaking fashion, 25-20, 21-25, 20-25, 27-25, 14-16.
Katelyn Trevino did all she could for East Union, finishing with 22 kills, 17 digs, three blocks and five aces. Meritiana Luani racked up 24 assists, five kills and four digs. Marcella Carranza added 18 assists, two aces and three digs. Lily Grove contributed nine kills.
GIRLS GOLF
Lathrop def. Johansen, n
Ashley Abon led all players with a 53 at Manteca Park Golf Course.
Lathrop netted a 323 team score and won the Western Athletic Conference match via forfeit. Johansen had just two players.
Following Abon for the Spartans were 66s from Yadira Hernandez and Madison Dash. Kate Albisu contributed a 68.
Frosh girls volleyball
East Union 2, Oakdale 1
The Lancers escaped with the 25-18, 19-25, 15-8 victory.
Isabella Martinez led the front row with three kills and four blocks. Camile Christensen chipped in five kills and three digs. Cambria Souza handed out six assists.
