ROUNDUP: Cruz hat trick highlights Sierra’s drubbing of Lathrop

Sierra’s girls soccer team bounced back from its first loss of the season on Wednesday, routing visiting Lathrop 6-0 behind Hailey Cruz’s hat trick at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.

Cruz assisted another goal, and she’s among the Sac-Joaquin Section scoring leaders with 11 goals and four assists for 26 points. The senior striker fired 14 of Sierra’s 41 shots on Wednesday. The Timberwolves (7-1-1) were coming off a 4-0 loss to Gregori on Tuesday.

Leslie Reyes contributed with one goal and one assist. Haley Gama scored once, while Anayla McDonald, Jessica Miranda and Zoe Sutton each pitched in an assist.

Second-half goalie Mele Sanchez notched Sierra’s only save of the night.

The T’wolves are hosting their annual Vern Gebhardt Champions Cup starting Friday. They’ll begin with Summerville at 12:30 p.m. and follow with Mountain House at 5.

Lathrop (0-6) kicks off Western Athletic Conference play next Tuesday at home against Pacheco.


Manteca 1, West 1

Manteca (2-2-2) was seconds away from securing the win, but the visiting Wolf Pack (3-1-2) from Tracy scored on the final play of the game.

Kailee Jackson put away the Buffaloes’ lone goal midway through the second half. Freshman goalie Rosilinda Gonzales had six saves.

Manteca hosts the annual Buff Cup on Friday and Saturday. The Buffaloes open with Merced at 11:35 a.m.


BOYS BASKETBALL

Ripon Christian 83, McNair 45

The Knights (5-1) tipped off the Mark Gallo Invitational at Central Catholic with an overwhelming victory.

Junior guard Jake Vander Veen was two assists shy of a triple-double, finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds. McNair (2-4) also had no answers for Ripon Christian’s towering post players, as 6-foot-9 Walker Postma tallied 20 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, while 6-6 E.J. Bruno had 13 points and 14 boards.

Mason Tameling contributed 12 points, four rebounds and four assists. Amos Cady accumulated 10 points and seven rebounds.

Ripon Christian totaled eight made 3s and 20 assists. The Knights continue pool play against Gregori (6-3).

McNair was led by Abdul Khan’s 13 points.


BOYS SOCCER

Summerville 5, Ripon Christian 1

The reigning SJS Division V champion Bears (7-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 5 minutes of play and handed Ripon Christian (5-1-1) its first defeat of the season.

The Knights got their goal in the second half when Colin LeCain scored off an assist from Aaron Hofwegen. That closed them in, 4-1.

Ripon Christian starts its Trans-Valley League schedule on Wednesday, Dec. 18 against visiting Hilmar.


JV girls soccer

Sierra 13, Lathrop 0

Ivy Sutton scored three goals, while Abigail Fraser and Mallory Silva each had a brace. Fraser also contributed an assist.

Kaylee Rodriguez racked up three assists to go with a goal. Analia Carillo had two assists. Isabella Cruz, Amanda Magana and Emily Rodriguez each scored a goal and an assist. Roxy Le and Haley Perez added a goal apiece.

Sierra improved to 8-0-1.
