Manteca’s girls tennis team has its eyes on a Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berth after downing host Sierra 8-1 on Thursday.

The Buffaloes (8-3, 9-6 overall) end their Valley Oak League schedule next Monday with a make-up match against Patterson at Manteca Regional Tennis Center. A win would secure second-place for Manteca, while Oakdale gets the third and final postseason bid. A loss would force a coin flip to determine the two qualifiers behind unbeaten league champion Mountain House.

Reigning VOL singles champion Emma Ngo won the No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-1 over Sierra’s Makayla Villalobos.

No. 2 Shreya Raman defeated Elina Nguyen 6-0, 6-1; No. 3 Michailla Springs outlasted Ruth Beedi 6-4, 1-6, 6-1; No. 5 Parm Noor dispatched Xitali Gonzalez 6-0, 6-2; and No. 6 Paisley Coenenberg blanked Janessa Felix, 6-0, 6-0.

Sierra’s lone win came from No. 4 Munveer Dosanjh, who prevailed against Simar Mann, 6-3, 7-5.

The most competitive match was at No. 1 doubles, with Manteca’s Pia Kley and Alyson Alvarado warding off Evelin Garcia and Sadie Herrera, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. The No. 2 duo of Myreal Bugayong and Jada Navales edged of Nadine Yamomo and Melissa Castillo, 6-4, 6-4. Delialah Sanchez Torres and Rubi Sepulveda took care of Amara Kenechukwu and Niyah Pini at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, 6-2.

The VOL Tournament takes place next Tuesday and Wednesday at Manteca Regional Tennis Center.
