Manteca’s boys basketball team was able to salvage a win in the Modesto Christian Holiday Hoop Classic on Monday, dusting Downey 64-39 in the 15th-place game.
The Buffaloes (6-9) previously beat Downey by a similar margin three weeks ago.
Tyler Watkins led a balanced effort with 12 points. Manteca mounted a 51-24 halftime lead, which allowed the reserves to get ample playing time.
Josh Mellion contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds. Landon Butler had 11 points and six rebounds. Antonio Fraley and Jayden Scarver scored eight points each.
Downey (2-12) was paced by freshman center Kayden McDonald’s 12 points.
Manteca went 1-3 in the four-day tournament but was competitive in a 57-54 loss to Venture Academy (8-5) on Saturday.
Johan Peringelil had 20 points and eight rebounds, while Watkins amassed 18 points. The Buffs held a 41-38 lead at the start of the fourth quarter. Jabril Lewis-Muhammad scored 17 points for Venture Academy.
Oakdale Rotary Classic
Ripon Christian 67, Johansen 30
All-tournament selection Jake Vander Veen accumulated 19 points, six rebounds and four assists, leading the Knights (9-4) to a lopsided win in the 53rd Oakdale Rotary Holiday Classic consolation final Saturday.
Ripon Christian used a 15-0 run to break it open in the second quarter, holding Johansen (9-4) without a point for 6 ½ minutes.
Mason Tameling contributed with 17 points. Amos Cady and Chase Bunnell added nine each, while 6-foot-9 center Walker Postma chipped in seven points, six rebounds and four blocks.
Oakdale 66, Ripon 44
Ripon (6-8) stumbled to a big deficit in the second quarter, succumbing to a 25-4 run by the tournament-host Mustangs (10-5).
Ripon senior Marcus Madoski led all scorers with 17 points, and Gino Calderara added eight. Oakdale had four players in double figures and was headed by Jake Norris’ 13 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Liberty Ranch 61, Ripon Christian 29
The visiting Hawks (10-2) soared to a 36-9 halftime lead.
Reagan Van der Hoek paced Ripon Christian (4-4) with 10 points and seven rebounds. Cailyn Mouw contirbuted with eight points.
The Knights’ JV team prevailed, 39-38.

Jack Taylor fired 20 points for the Timberwolves (7-7) in the Block M Tournament consolation final. He earned an all-tournament team spot after averaging 15 points in three games.
Kiral Tran pitched in with seven points, while Ozias Siga had six points and five rebounds.
