Brayden Beckman and the Lathrop boys golf team continued their historic season Thursday at Manteca Park Golf Course, winning another Western Athletic Conference tournament.
Beckman, a sophomore, is 5-for-5 in in earning low medalist honors, carding a 5-over-par 77. Meanwhile, the Spartans won their fourth straight league tourney after a runner-up finish in the opener last month.
Lathrop totaled a 468, holding off second-place Livingston (484) and third-place Beyer (536).
Jared Isla added a solid 89 for the Spartans. Raphael Iniguez and Jayden Wall each contributed a 94. Ashnell Jeet capped scoring with a 114.
The sixth WAC tournament is next Thursday, April 17 at Dryden Park Golf Course in Modesto. The WAC Championships will also take place at Dryden on April 28.
SOFTBALL
Manteca 10, Patterson 8 (8)
The Buffaloes (5-2, 14-4 overall) avenged one of their Valley Oak League losses Thursday at Patterson (2-6, 8-11), plating two in the top of the eighth inning for the win.
They scored the first six runs of the game but could not keep the Tigers’ attack — which included two home runs from Elizabeth Zavala — down for long.
Jocelyn Baptist went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to pace Manteca. Lauren Moncada went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs. Ayva Wilkins added a double, a triple and two RBIs. Riley Ward was the winning pitcher.
Ripon 10, Sonora 0 (5)
Host Ripon (5-1, 8-7 overall) bounced back from its first Trans Valley League loss of the season, scoring three runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Angelina Martinez rung up nine strikeouts in the two-hit shutout.
Addison Naranjo clubbed a double and a home run, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. Izabelle Spurzem also homered and hit a double, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Clara Townsend contributed a double, two runs, two RBIs.
BOYS TENNIS
Sierra 8, Manteca 1
The postseason-bound Timberwolves (10-2, 12-3 overall) ended their VOL schedule with a one-sided victory over visiting Manteca (6-5, 6-6), which wraps up its regular season next Monday at East Union.
Sierra was spotted two wins with Manteca forfeiting the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles matches.
Reigning VOL singles champion Yok Chai Ma downed Sierra’s Brady Alves 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Sierra. It was all T’wolves from there, as No.2 Ashton Hillard (6-1, 6-2), No. 3 Oliver Naven (6-3, 5-2) and No. 4 Santiago Franco (7-5, 6-0) prevailed in straight sets. Harshith Kumar was the No. 5 match in comeback fashion against Landon Butler, 3-6, 6-1, 10-3.
Ryan Alves and Sid Gopendran won the No. 1 doubles match, 6-4, 6-1. Sierra’s second pairing of Sparsh Beedi and Hasnain Ali swept, 6-2, 6-2.
BASEBALL
Central Valley 11, Lathrop 1 (5)
The WAC-leading Hawks (10-0, 14-7 overall) jumped out to an 8-0 lead at Lathrop (3-7, 5-13) and cruised from there behind a combined two-hitter from Nicholas Dominguez and Hunter Shaw.
Ayden Louie plated the Spartans’ lone run in the bottom of the fifth. Santino Arranaga and Vaughn Sanchez accounted for their hits.
BOYS TRACK
Manteca 97, East Union 49
Manteca hosted a four-team Valley Oak League meet, coming away with three wins. The Buffaloes also outpointed Patterson 101-29 and Central Catholic, 97-26. East Union defeated Central Catholic 92-44 and took care of Patterson, 92-40.
Jayden Scarver (200, 400) and William Brown (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) anchored the Buffaloes with two overall first-place finishes apiece in individual events. They were also on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Victor Espinoza (800, 1,600), Josh Mellion (shot, discus) and Tyler Watkins (high jump, triple jump) were also double winners.
East Union had notable efforts from Jackson Fay (10.67 seconds) and Blake Mount (long jump, 21 feet, 8 inches), who both set personal records while winning one event each. Gabriel Lopez took first in the pole vault.
GIRLS TRACK
Manteca 77, East Union 46
The Buffaloes tallied three comfortable wins, also downing Central Catholic 88-34 and Patterson, 78-49 along the way. East Union beat Central Catholic 70-47 but was edged by Patterson, 59-58.
Jordyn Hegarty had a busy meet for Manteca, winning all three distance events as well as helping the 4x400 relay win. Pole vault winner Rylan Steckler was also on the winning mile relay.
Raniya Nelson won the shot put and the discus, while Antonique Jones claimed the 100 hurdles.
Caliyah Lopez paced the Lancers with wins in the 100, long jump and 4x100. Ava Barrera took first in the triple jump.
