Joe Alvarez pitched a two-hit shutout, and Brayden Camara knocked in a pair of runs as East Union punctuated its three-game sweep of visiting Mountain House on Friday, 4-0.
The Lancers (7-5 Valley Oak League, 13-9 overall) scored twice in the bottom of the first inning, and that’s all Alvarez needed. The sophomore racked up 12 strikeouts and walked just two. Callahan Healy also went the distance for Mountain House (0-10, 4-15-1), giving up five hits.
Camara smacked a double and a triple. Freshman Ryan Allen belted a double and scored. Peyton Heath added an RBI.
East Union ends the regular season with three-game sets against two of the top three teams in the VOL. The Lancers head to Oakdale on Monday.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Manteca 3, Elk Grove 0
The host Buffaloes (18-6) squeaked out the opening set of this non-league contest and went on to sweep, 30-28, 25-17, 25-19.
Jesus Gomez anchored them with 18 kills and 10 digs. Mark Bondoc accumulated 29 assists, 18 digs and five kills. Rob Hevener contributed nine kills and seven blocks. Logan Romriell chipped in five kills and three digs.
SOFTBALL
Ceres 13, Lathrop 2 (5)
The visiting Spartans (5-4 Western Athletic Conference, 8-6 overall) plated their first run in the top of the fourth inning to close in, 2-1.
Then Ceres (8-2, 12-7) broke it open with 11 runs in the bottom half. The Bulldogs totaled 10 hits for the game, six going for extra bases. Bella Bravo went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs and three RBIs.
Ja’Leiyah Ray went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Lathrop. She was knocked in by Tatianna Lopez.
JV boys volleyball
Manteca 2, Elk Grove 0
Adam Cuevas paced the attack with nine kills, Manteca (17-4) coasted to the 25-13, 25-14 win.
