River Islands’ inaugural varsity campaign has included debut postseason appearances from two winter sports teams.

Idrees ElFarra was named to the All-Central California Athletic Alliance first team after leading the basketball team to a co-runner-up finish. Cierra Torres represents the Riptide’s playoff-qualifying girls soccer on the all-league first-team defense.

Also receiving All-CCAA first-team honors are Yovanny Avila (boys soccer) and Brianna Lee (girls soccer).

ElFarra was the conductor of River Islands’ young and exciting boys hoops team that finished 7-3 in the CCAA and 16-13 overall. The Riptide lost their Sac-Joaquin Section Division V opener to Big Valley Christian.

The junior point guard averaged 11.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.1 steals in league play. Fellow junior guard Charles Mapanao (16.0 points), one of the most prolific 3-point shooters in the SJS, was named to the second team. Sophomore Darius Radoc-Factoran got honorable mention.

The girls soccer team (5-5-2, 6-11-3) made the playoffs as an at-large qualifier. Torres, a freshman, paced River Islands with 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points in league matches. Earning all-league team-team honors were Sophia Tovar (two goals, nine assists) and Ashley Rodriguez.

Yovanny Avila made the first-team defense for the Riptide boys soccer team (3-10-1, 4-15-1). Kaldi Dover was selected to the second-team defense.

Sophomore guard Brianna Lee earned a spot on the All-CCAA first team for girls basketball. Milyn Morales received honorable mention. The Riptide finished 2-8 in league, 5-10 overall.

Major-award winners: boys basketball MVP Kwasi Moses (Venture Academy), girls basketball co-MVPs Kelyiana Neal (Venture Academy) and Faith Grim (Holt Academy), boys soccer MVP Yosgar Hernandez (Venture Academy), boys soccer Co-Most Valuable Goalkeepers Christopher Macias (Hughes Academy) and Victor Mendoza (Holt Academy), girls soccer MVP Amber Nguyen (Holt Academy) and girls soccer Most Valuable Goalkeeper Daviana Pitcock (Millennium).
