Ripon’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division III champion boys and girls water polo teams were eliminated in the first round of the California Interscholastic Federation Northern Regional playoffs on Tuesday.
Both were given No. 6 seeds and on the road for the Division III opener, as the boys lost to No. 3 Clovis West 14-9, while the girls came up short in Walnut Creek 16-8 against Northgate.
In the boys game, the Indians (16-11) were led by Teo West’s five goals and four steals. Ben Svoboda tallied two goals, two assists and three steals. Brody Biedermann chipped in four assists and three steals. Owen Curtiss added two goals, and goalie Benny Rogers came up with four saves.
Tiffani Hunter had a busy outing in front of the goal for Ripon girls team (13-11), amassing 10 saves. She also scored a goal.
Mia Sickler-Lopez netted three goals. Hailey Knief had two goals, one assists and two steals. Chloe Price and Sami Scheid added one goal apiece.
