The middle of the Ripon girls soccer lineup came through in a big way for the Indians on Monday night in a 3-1 non-league win over visiting Downey at Stouffer Field.

“Jaydin (Kroutil), Kaiya (Kroutil) and Ines (Rodriguez) just hold that middle together,” Ripon coach Bryce Perkins said. “The number of steals they make – I just lose track of. They never give up on a second ball, they just attack and attack. One is not there – all three of them are and that’s what controls this game is those three mids and how very powerful they are.”

The Indians (8-3-2) scored first within a minute on goal by Katie Martin off of an assist by Ariana Daniels.

In the 22nd minute Kaiya Kroutil made a steal and blasted in a long bomb to make the score 2-0.

“I saw an opportunity,” Kroutil said. “And my teammates were yelling at me to take the shot so I took the shot, aimed at the top-right corner and it went in.”

In the 61st minute Rodriguez took a negative pass from Olivia Maragos and found the net to run the score to 3-0.

“On every goal I stay back for support,” Rodriguez said. “So they can play it back to me as a negative option.

“On my goal Olivia (Maragos) played the ball negative to me and I took it.”

The Knights from Modesto (1-2) got their loan goal in the 66th minute.

Ellena Parenti-Gomez made three saves for the Ripon. The Indians reeled off 25 shots, 15 of which were on frame.

Ripon is off until after the holidays when the Indians host Oakdale on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 6:15 p.m.
