Top-seeded Ripon prepared well for visiting No. 4 Bear River on Tuesday night, sweeping the Bruins 25-16, 25-10, 25-17 in the semifinals of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV girls volleyball playoffs.

The Indians (29-2) advance to the championship round against Liberty Ranch of Galt on Saturday afternoon at 1 at Cosumnes River College. They’ll vie for the seventh SJS title in program history.

“We watched film on them,” Indians coach Gregory Solis said. “We kind of knew what they were going to do. We knew they served tough and what they were going to bring.

“The girls executed what they needed to do, and they are playing with a lot of energy.”

Adriana Dorn led the way for Ripon with 13 kills, six aces, four digs and a block. She posted a seven-point service run in the second set with behind four aces.

“This feels really good,” Dorn said. “I’ve been working really hard, and it feels great to make it back to sections three years in a row.

“I’m so excited and it feels great.”

Jorie Eskes formed a book end with Dorn, nailing 11 kills and a block.

“Adriana (Dorn) and I have one rotation together in the front row,” Eskes said. “I would say that’s one of our stronger offensive rotations.

“When she’s in the back row, I feel like I really have to step up. Being aggressive and going after every ball is what I try to do.”

Katelyn Bogetti was busy setting Dorn, Eskes and Shayla McKeon (seven kills, block), totaling 27 assists along with three kills and three digs.

“It is really fun setting for these girls,” Bogetti said. “It’s really fun to watch them put down the ball and being able to contribute to that is a good feeling.”

Amelia Lara added six digs and three aces for the Indians.

The loss does not end the season for Bear River (32-4). As a semifinalist, the Bruins from Grass Valley will participate in the NorCal championships for the fourth year in a row, with the pairings to be announced on Sunday and the first round will be Tuesday.

“A ton of credit to Ripon,” Bear River coach Matt MacDonald said. “They are a strong program, and they came close last year in the sections. We came close in D-V last year, and I think this is Ripon’s year.

“They have a well-coached team and they do some great things. It was a great test for us, and we knew they were going to be strong and they were. We are excited to get to the next step and will see how the brackets shake out in NorCals.”

Gabby Sams paced the Bruins with six kills. Eden Cha added five kills with three apiece for Grace McKeown (block) and Claire McDaniel.
