Ripon Christian rolls in rain- shortened match

It was the only game played in the area — half of one anyway.

On Thursday, Ripon Christian’s girls soccer team dominated visiting Turlock Christian for a 3-0 Southern League win. The Knights are 3-0-1 in the SL, and 11-2-1 overall.

The first half was so one-sided that Turlock Christian figured it was pointless to delay the inevitable, opting to forfeit the rest of the match at halftime.

Ripon Christian peppered the Eagles’ goal with 22 shots in the one half.

Natalie Van Groningen scored twice and Jillian Koetsier had two assists. Ashley Roberts contributed a goal, and Kirsten Lown had an assist. Goalkeeper Brittany Petlanski picked seven saves.

The Knights will look to continue their solid play Tuesday at Delhi.

Frustrated by its sloppy all-around effort just two days prior, East Union was near-perfect Wednesday when rival Sierra visited for Game 2 of their best-of-three Valley Oak League series. Blake Mount struck out 12 in a dominant two-hit shutout, and he was backed by a clean defensive effort and timely hitting in a 9-0 win for EU at Maurice Agostini Field. It was a complete role reversal from the opener, which Sierra took 11-1 in six innings. The rubber game is Friday at Sierra’s Jack Stadium.
