Bad news first.
Brooke Riley, East Union’s sophomore sensation, bogeyed twice on the Manteca Park Golf Course front nine on Thursday.
The good news? She etched her name into the course records books anyway.
The reigning Valley Oak League MVP carded an impressive 4-under-par 33 to lead the Lancers’ 229-271 win over crosstown foe Manteca High. Riley holed six birdies en route to securing her place as the VOL course record holder.
East Union coach Dennis Wells said her previous best on the front nine was a 35, though she once finished 3-under during a practice round.
The Lancers, now 7-0 at the halfway point of the VOL season, were nine shots off their score from Tuesday’s match against Kimball despite Riley’s record round. Jordan Vinson (44), Brittany Ugalino (47) and Breanna Perkins (51) were the Nos. 2-4 finishers overall. Brittany Conijn added a 54.
Kaylie Grimes and Katie Hankins both paced Manteca with 53s. Dominique Graham shot a 55, and Isabella Garcia a 57.
Sierra 246. W. Ranch 317
At Van Buskirk Golf Course, the Cougars (1-4) pieced together a season-low round on their home track, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with Sierra (5-2).
Lexus Barnes produced a rock-solid 5-over-41 and was eight strokes better than second-place teammate Vanessa Rodriguez. McKenna Doyle and Krystal Rayevich each scored a 51, and Kaitlea Maestas chipped in a 54.
Jessica Fotheringham led Weston Ranch with a 59. Tayler Mar (60), Sierra Strambler (62), Rochelle Macatangay (65) and Jennifer Carmona (71) made up the rest of the team’s score.
Valley Foothill League
Ripon 211, Calaveras 231
Sienna Starck helped Ripon improve to 3-1 with her team-low 47 at the par-35 La Contenta Golf Course. Erin Wever (53), Hailey-Rae Rose (54) and Claire Wever (57) rounded out the team score.
Taylor Robinson was low medalist with a 39, but Calaveras (1-3) didn’t have another player break 50.
