The Manteca girls tennis team’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division II quarterfinal at No. 3-seeded Mountain House is to be continued.

Play was suspended because of rain Wednesday. Four of the nine matches had been completed, with the visiting Buffaloes taking 3-1 lead. The start of the contest was already delayed by nearly an hour, and darkness would have been a concern had play resumed some time after the second downpour.

With the SJS Division II Individual Tournament taking place today and Friday in Roseville, sixth-seeded Manteca will return to Mountain House on Saturday to pick up where they left off starting at 2 p.m.

Manteca No. 1 singles player Katie Kim will be defending her individual Section title in Roseville. She tuned up with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Anisha Pandey.

No. 3 Emma Ngo defeated Lizzie Su, 7-5, 6-0. Shreya Raman had just locked up her win at No. 5 against Akoukor Sai 6-4, 6-1 a few minutes before it rained.

Mountain House took the No. 5 match, as Akweleuy Sai defeated Jenna Poncini, 6-0, 6-2.

At No. 2 singles, Chloe Marquis staved off match point and was poised to take the lead up 40-30 with the second set score knotted at 5-5 against Malkiva Seth. Christina Nguyen was trailing Ananya Reddy, 3-6, 1-2 (15-30) at No. 6 singles.

All three doubles matches were in the opening sets when the action was halted.
