Manteca Cobras’ Jimenez 4th in state championship

FRESNO – Nicky Jimenez of the Manteca Cobras Wrestling Club placed fourth in his category at the California USA Wrestling Folkstyle State Championships on Saturday at Selland Arena.

 Wrestling in the bantam (6- and 7-year-old) division at 43 pounds, Jimenez went 4-2 for the tournament. Jiminez suffered a 6-3 opening-round loss before posting a 15-1 major-decision win, a second-round and a 10-second pin before getting pinned in the consolation championship. 

 The state tournament completes the inaugural session of the Cobras. Also competing for Manteca were Aris Masudi (bantam, 49 pounds), Gilbert Luiz II (intermediate, 77 pounds), Ayden Louie (intermediate, 105 pounds), and Albert Menchaca Jr. (novice, 74 pounds), all first-year competitors.

Ripon Christian’s remarkable streak of postseason shutouts finally ended Saturday in the City by the Bay. Top-seeded Lowell of San Francisco came into the NorCal Division V final averaging five goals in its previous four playoff matches but needed just one to knock off the No. 2 Knights for their second California Interscholastic Federation regional title.
