East Union found themselves intertwined in a pitchers dual, but the advantage ended up going to the Central Valley Hawks in their 3-0 Valley Oak League win over the Lancers Saturday.
Greg Guerra twirled a two hitter for the Hawks, holding East Union to a pair of base hits in a complete-game victory. Guerra battled East Union starter Steven Gigli for seven innings, but two early Central valley runs proved to be the difference.
Gigli and teammate Brett Riley tallied East Union’s only hits, and Gigli did all he could do from the bump, scattering five hits and striking out five in a losing effort.
Things won’t get any easier for the Lancers (3-6 VOL, 8-11 overall) Tuesday as they make the climb up the hill to face the Sonora Wildcats at 4 p.m.
East Union (7-2, 10-5) got a strong pitching performance from Zac Carrillo who went four innings for the Lancers and struck out six before giving way to Alex Dias in the fifth.
Bryson Stonum led the Lancer offense, going 2 for 2, while teammate Robert Thompson smashed a two RBI triple. Zak Lewallen also tallied two hits for East Union in the win.
The Lancers will be back on the diamond Tuesday when they pay a visit to the Sonora Wildcats.
