NEWMAN — Ripon Christian’s baseball team wrapped up its dominating run through the Orestimba Tournament Saturday with a 12-1 victory over Turlock Christian for the title.
The Knights (9-4) also defeated Gustine 12-1 and host Orestimba 8-4 over spring break.
Mantecan Elijah English was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, as he went 8 for 10 with seven RBIs in three games. In the final he was a perfect 3 for 3 with two doubles and four RBIs.
Arie den Dulk drove in three runs against TC. Robbie DeVries, Clayton Prins and Steve Vander Molen combined for nine strikeouts while giving up five hits from the mound.
Ripon Christian returns to Trans Valley League action Wednesday at home against Hughson to begin a two-game series. The Knights are second in the league with a 4-1 record.
The Buffaloes (5-7) struggled to keep pace with Sonora’s depth in the loss, as Michael Sturgis shared medalist honors with Wildcat teammate Jonathan Smith with a three-over round of 40.
Nick Gonzalez paced Manteca with a 43, which was the fifth best score of the match. Kenny Summers followed with a 44 and Casey Benson a 46.
East Union 170, Central Valley forfeit
CERES — Freshman Will Brink and reigning Valley Oak League MVP Kyle Harman continue to keep pace with the conference’s individual leaders following impressive performances on River Oaks Golf Course’s par-31 track.
Brink turned in two birdies and finished with a one-under-par 30 to lead all players, while Harman carded a 31. Sophomore Jordan Duvall finished with a 33, and Tanner Bragg and Guillermo Barajas had a 36 and 40, respectively.
Central Valley forfeited because it only had four players.
East Union (8-2) meets rival Sierra today at Manteca Park Golf Course.
Cedric Starling played better than bogey golf for Lathrop, finishing with a 35 on the par-27 course at River Oaks.
Kenneth DeGuzman and Gilberto Duran each contributed with a 45.
