East Union’s football team exploded for 43 points in the first quarter last Friday, opening its season under new coach Booie Daniels with a 63-0 thrashing of Elite of Vallejo.

The Lancers had seven different players contribute to the scoring. Brayden Camara and Cesar Salinas each rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns. J.P. Abrew (two receptions, 47 yards) and Blake Mount (two receptions, 60 yards) contributed one touchdown catch apiece.

East Union’s balanced spread offense compiled 182 passing yards and 257 on the ground.

Lineman Brady Rossi paced the defense with four tackles, a forced fumble and a recovery. Mount added four tackles and caused a fumble. Vinny Sanchez chipped in three tackles and a blocked punt that led to a touchdown.

The Lancers travel to former Valley Oak League rival Kimball this Friday.


CROSS COUNTRY

Flame Invitational

Manteca senior Oscar Angel highlighted local competitors at Lodi Lake last Friday, winning the 5,000-meter varsity boys race in 15 minutes, 7.62 seconds.

Isaiah Green placed 13th in 17:10.34, spearheading Ripon’s fourth-place finish (119 points). Ripon Christian took 12th.

Manteca’s Jordyn Hegarty (13th, 22:00.57) and Ripon’s Mallory Govia (16th, 22:07.73) were the top varsity girls runners from the area. Ripon finished sixth as a team.

Ripon won both the JV boys and girls titles with Jacob Bair (second, 11:30.70), James Wilkins (sixth, 11:57.34), Kyla Agbayani-Duenas (first, 13:46.98) and Izabella Rodriguez (eighth, 15:10.02) leading the way.

Among the top-10 individuals at the sophomore level were Manteca’s Paisley Coenenberg (fifth, 13:15.60) and Ripon Christian’s Matijs Zylstra (eighth, 11:07.50).
