CROSS COUNTRY: Manteca’s Angel soars to first place in VOL Championships

 Manteca senior Oscar Angel claimed an individual title, while Sierra’s boys and girls teams both placed second in the Valley Oak League Championships held Wednesday at Diablo Grande.

Oakdale repeats as varsity boys and girls league champion.

Angel earned the varsity boys crown by a comfortable margin, finishing in 14 minutes, 58.07 seconds. Oakdale’s Jacob Cavanaugh was the runner-up in 15:23.65, while Christian Gonzalez (15:28.23) of Sierra came in third.

Sierra’s Ernesto Pacheco (seventh, 16:00.42) also placed in the top 10. Alejandro Mata (17:11.84) took 16th for East Union.

Freshman Anna Dittman paced the Sierra girls with a fourth-place finish in 19:04.48. Fellow Timberwolf Monse Saavedra took eighth in 19:34.25. Patterson’s Natalie Arriaza won the race in 17:45.17.

Manteca’s Paisley Coeneneberg spearheaded local harriers in the 2-mile frosh-soph girls race, winning in 13:06.79. She was followed by East Union’s Alysia Sinclair (14:21.46) and Sierra’s Alyssa Rodriguez (14:26.02).


Trans-Valley League

Isaiah Green paced Ripon’s varsity boys to a second-place team finish in the TVL final in Sonora. He came in sixth place individually in 17:37.97. Milan Chun backed him up in ninth place in 18:18.71.

Hughson outpointed Ripon 42-61 for the title.

Mallory Govia (22:38.78) and Izabella Rodriguez (22:42.30) led the Ripon girls’ third-place team finish, placing 10-11 individually.

Ripon Christian’s boys took seventh, while the girls came in fifth.

Ripon took first in JV girls, as Valeria Martinez, Ailin Delgado, Noeli Jimenez, Avaline Haas and Celina Cavazos finished 5-9 in that order. Jacob Gallagher took third in JV boys.
