The Weston Ranch Cougars have definitely opened some eyes in the Valley Oak League with an impressive opening to the 2010 season, and that trend continued as the Cougars beat East Union in three games Tuesday.
The Cougars (3-1 VOL, 7-2 overall) were led by Julia Olaya’s 11 kills and Robyn Sison’s 10 assists. Junior Desiree Fonoti contributed three aces and three kills, while senior middle blocker Sidney Carter controlled the net with five blocks and five kills.
The Lancers got a pair of aces and six assists from Taylor Maruca and Brittany Lamar added two blocks and four kills.
Both clubs will be on the court Thursday, as the Cougars travel to Sierra and East Union hosts the Oakdale Mustangs.
Ripon Christian (4-0 SL, 13-4) found little resistance from the eagles, winning 25-14, 25-15 and 25-16 for their fourth consecutive win to open the league season. Michelle Terpstra led the club with 19 assists and a five aces.
Teammate Andie Shelton made her presences felt with five aces and 11 kills, while Emily Leahy controlled the net with four blocks. Brittany Petlansky amassed 13 digs to lead the Knights.
The Knights will look to extend their SL winning streak when they travel to Delhi Thursday.
