The East Union High boys' varsity soccer squad celebrated Senior Night Wednesday at Dino Cunial Field with a 5-0 Valley Oak League victory over rival Manteca High.
"It was a great night for our seniors," said Lancers coach Ronnie Green, who recognized all 17 prior to the start of the game.
East Union (8-3 VOL, 16-6-2 overall) struck first in the home finale, with senior forward German Gonzalez drilling an unassisted shot from outside 18 yards, making it 1-0 at the 10-minute mark.
Playoff-bound Lancers will close out the regular season today at Central Catholic and ends up in third place in league.
Against the Buffaloes, senior forward Andrew Ramos added to East Union's lead, kicking one from about 25 yards out, straight away in the 18th minute.
At the 39th minute, Christian Tapia made it 3-0.
The senior midfielder took advantage of a goalie fumble of the ball off an initial save, delivering the shot at close range.
The Lancers added to their advantage in the 43rd minute. Gonzalez scored his second goal, netting this one from about 20 yards. Tapia got the assist on the play.
Ramos also scored twice. His second goal came in the 69th minute from outside 18 yards.
For Manteca (1-8-3, 2-11-4), this game marked the season finale.
"We have six seniors," said Buffaloes coach Danny Guevara of his otherwise young team. "I think the future looks good for us."
