The Manteca girls basketball team used a 20-point outburst to gain separation against visiting Ripon on the way to a 41-32 victory Wednesday in a Peter J. Saco Foundation Game.
Foundation Games took place Tuesday and Wednesday and benefit the Sac-Joaquin Section’s A. Dale Lacky Scholarship and Women in Sports Conference. Six area schools participated in Foundation Games, which don’t count against official records. The winter sports season begins on Friday.
Senior guard Michailla Springs paced the Buffaloes with 17 points, accounting for nine in the second-quarter barrage. She knocked down three of Manteca’s seven 3-pointers.
Jaesha Dunn capped the first half with a buzzer-beating 3 from the corner, as the Buffs led 31-15. Lana Bondoc contributed nine points, hitting two from long distance.
Second-year sophomore guard Kaylee Lehmkuhl led Ripon with 10 points, and Anandjap Dhami had six.
Lathrop 53, Langston Hughes 10
On Tuesday, Lathrop shut out the visiting Titans in the second quarter and led 31-1 at halftime.
Sophomore Jaleiyah Ray and freshman Audrina Fisher spearheaded the Spartans with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Sierra Adams pitched in with nine.
BOYS
Ripon Christian 50, East Union 41
Jake Vander Veen led Ripon Christian with 27 points in the back-and-forth battle at Dalben Center. The Knights staked a 25-16 halftime lead but trailed after three quarters, 33-31.
Walker Postma added seven points, 10 rebounds and six blocks for Ripon Christian.
Escalon 51, River Islands 35
Host Escalon pulled away in the second half after leading 27-20 at the midway point.
Idrees ElFarra scored 11 points for River Islands, and freshman Zach Basurto had eight.
