BASKETBALL: Grady’s 22 points lefts Sierra over Bear Creek

Anthony Grady led the Sierra boys basketball team with 22 points including three 3-pointers in a 65-62 win over Bear Creek on Friday.

It was back and forth throughout, as the two teams were even at halftime, 32-32.

Josh Seals contributed with 13 points, and Richard Nguyen had nine.

The Timberwolves improved to 6-3

 

Christian Brothers 57, Ripon Christian 39

It was competitive for a half until Christian Brothers (6-3) employed a three-quarters-court defense that helped the Falcons carry a 41-30 lead into the final period of this Mark Gallo Invitational semifinal.

Jake Vander Veen led the Knights (3-3) with 18 points, and Jace Beidleman chipped in with 10. Shawn Underwood Jr. had 16 points for Christian Brothers (6-3), and Stephan Hewitt knocked down four 3s for the bulk of his 14 points.

Ripon Christian plays tournament host Central Catholic (4-2) for third place at 6 tonight.

 

Varsity girls

Manteca 55, Beyer 32

Kalaja Reese amassed 20 points to help the Buffaloes (7-0) reach the championship round of Gregori’s Battle of the Hardwood tournament.

They’ll tangle with tourney host Gregori (5-4) at 2 p.m.

 

Ripon Christian 41, Modesto 17

The Knights (3-1) jumped out to a 17-4 first-quarter lead and rolled to the consolation final of the Gregori Tournament. They square off with Mountain House (2-6) at 11 a.m.

Maddie Yonker paced them with 17 points, nine rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Reagan Van der Hoek added 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Kara Kessler contributed six points and three steals.

 

Junior varsity girls

Lathrop 47, Linden 11

The Spartans opened the 45th annual Tony Contreras Delta Queen Classic at Stagg with a one-sided win on Thursday.

They surged to a 26-8 halftime lead and outscored the Lions 16-2 in the third quarter.

Kriselle Matela led them with 10 points. Faith Butler, Tatianna Lopez and Moira Ramones chipped in six each.

 

Junior varsity boys

Bear Creek 37, Sierra 35 (OT)

The Timberwolves dropped a tough one on the road, falling to 5-2 on the season.

 

Freshman boys

Sierra 50, Bear Creek 48

Isaac Kempf collected 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Timberwolves’ hard-earned road win.

Isaiah Revives added 13 points. Arsh Gosal pitched in with nine points and nine rebounds. Karanbir Bhandal registered seven points and four steals.

Sierra evened its record to 2-2.
