ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Zoe Kossart, Sierra volleyball
AOW Zoe Kossart

With her team down 2-1 on sets, the senior outside hitter came alive in a pivotal Valley Oak League match last Tuesday, Oct. 10 against visiting rival Manteca.

Kossart clobbered five of her team-high 16 kills in the fourth set, then served five consecutive points in game 5 to completely swing the momentum in Sierra’s favor. The Timberwolves won 19-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20, 15-8 to avenge a previous loss to Manteca while jumping back into second place behind Central Catholic.

Kossart finished a double-double, compiling 15 digs and four aces.

Sierra knocked off another cross-town rival two nights later. East Union visited riding a three-match winning streak, needing a win to help keep its postseason hopes alive.

The Timberwolves took care of business and swept, 25-18, 25-17, 25-9.

Kossart again led the attack with 12 kills. She also had six digs and three aces.

“It’s our last home game of the regular season,” Kossart said. “We just wanted to take the pressure off ourselves, so I just told my teammates to get me the ball and I would hit it. I just wanted to have as much fun as I could and it the ball hard.”
