The Lancers sophomore is picking up right where she left off last season. A first-team All-Valley Oak League pick as a freshman, Dyson led East Union to the championship of the 40th Tracy Breakfast Lions/Tom Hawkins Tournament and was named MVP of the four-day affair. It’s her second MVP award of the season after being named the top player in the Golden Valley Tournament last month.
“This is halfway through her sophomore season,” Lancers coach Jim Agostini said. “I’ve told her that I like the way her game is maturing and progressing. There is a balance of when to shoot and when to pass, and as the leading scorer on the team she is finding that balance.
“It is asking a lot for a sophomore to lead a team, but like I said, we like how she is progressing.”
In a 55-41 win over Lathrop for the Tom Hawkins championship on Saturday, Dyson scored 23 points with six assists and two steals. Wrapping up pool play against Enochs on Friday, Dyson played barely a quarter in the 49-6 romp, scoring four points with four steals and three assists.
East Union beat Pacheco 70-25 in second-round action on Thursday with Dyson playing for three quarters, scoring 12 points with four steals and three assists. Dyson scored 22 points with six assists and two steals in the Lancers’ 60-24 drubbing of West to open the tournament last Wednesday.
