ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Michaela Singh, Manteca volleyball
AOW Michaela Singh

Coming off two straight Valley Oak League losses and three overall, Manteca’s standout 5-foot-10 outside hitter made sure that she and her Buffaloes went out on a high note last Tuesday, Oct. 24.

They faced East Union for the final regular-season home match for Singh and the rest of the seniors. Manteca downed its rival 25-13, 25-14, 19-25, 25-12 behind a career-best effort from Singh, who amassed 26 kills and eight digs.

“I made sure I gave it my all for the seniors and their last home game,” Singh said after the match. “It was definitely about energy. I felt the energy from my family, teammates and friends.”

The 26 kills on 52 attacks are the most she has had in a match in her three-year varsity career. Singh notched a 50% kill percentage and .385 hitting percentage.

“She was really on fire that night,” Manteca coach Robin Chandler said. “She’s a very humble player, and sometimes I don’t’ think she realizes how good she is. But that night, it clicked.”
