Sierra played four games in six days last week, going undefeated while scoring 13 goals — Roa was involved in 11 of those goals.
The leading scorer in the Sac-Joaquin Section netted nine goals and assisted two, and her play helped the Timberwolves (8-0, 13-3-1 overall) edge out rival East Union 2-1 in an important Valley Oak League matchup on Saturday.
“Over the years, we’ve had some great offensive players and strikers at Sierra High School and this girl is right up there with them at the top of the list,” Sierra coach Manuel Pires said. “She’s an amazing player. She is not only scoring goals but also assisting her teammates. She’s very coachable and super smart.”
For the season, Roa has 30 goals and nine assists for 69 points, which ranks her No. 4 in the state, according to MaxPreps. She recorded all four goals in a 4-2 win at Oakdale on Jan. 10, then scored twice and assisted one in a 4-1 win over Central Catholic the following day.
Last Thursday, she added two more tallies to her account as Sierra blanked Kimball, 3-0. Against East Union, Roa scored the first goal of the game in the eighth minute and had a hand in the late go-ahead score. She delivered a cross from near the end line, taking aim at teammate Annalise Paule on the far post. Presley Perez crashed the goal and nearly got to it first, but it instead deflected off of an East Union defender for an own goal.
“That was a great ball, and it was the right idea for her to send the hard cross into the box,” Pires said “With players running in, sometimes a defender runs into the ball and puts it in the back of the net. She created that goal with the way she hit the ball into the box.”
