The sophomore transfer has fit right in with the Buffaloes and is among the leading scorers in the state.
Last week, Roa racked up eight goals and one assist in four games last week, helping Manteca (10-0) win 5-3 at Ripon on Wednesday, Dec. 6 while notching a pair of hat tricks in the Buffalo Cup over the weekend.
“Thanks to (coach Justin) Coenenberg, he really brings us together really well,” Roa said after scoring twice at Ripon, where she was student-athlete her freshman year. “All the girls get along really well. It’s not like other teams that have separate little groups. We all get along and communicate well on and off the pitch.”
Manteca dominated en route to repeating as Buff Cup champion at Woodward Park, waxing Gustine 10-0, Edison 5-1 and Central Valley in the final, 3-1. Roa scored three goals and added an assist in the semifinal against Edison. She was held without a goal in the title match but assisted the icebreaker to Layla Flannigan.
Roa ended the week as the top scorer in the Sac-Joaquin Section and 19th in the state. She now has 16 goals and five assists in 10 matches.
“She’s just another weapon in the arsenal,” Coenenberg said. “It was a surprise; we didn’t know we were going to get her. She has come to the team with a great attitude and great work ethic. She’s unselfish and can strike the ball like we haven’t seen before. We’re definitely excited to have her.”
