ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jace Beidleman, Ripon Christian basketball
AOW--Jace Beidleman

After hitting the hardwood late due to the football team’s deep playoff run, the Knights senior is getting his basketball legs back.

“It’s nice to see, because you always worry a little bit when they come out of football how long it’s going to take,” Knights coach Mark Hofman said. “But we have been playing better and better every game.

“It takes three or four weeks to get your basketball legs back and in condition. Football condition is not basketball condition. Football is like eight seconds and then take a minute off. It does take strength, but basketball is go, go, go, non-stop action.”

The three-year varsity player just missed back-to-back double-doubles last week. In Friday’s 67-48 win over visiting Gregori, Beidleman made 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Three days prior on Tuesday, Beidleman controlled the paint with 12 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.

“After a few weeks I am finally starting to figure it out,” Beidleman said. “I think things are going in the right direction and as a team we are all starting to play together again.

“At the beginning it was rough and we lost a few games we shouldn’t have lost. But we have a young team and we are trying to figure it out again so I think we will be a good team.”

Ripon Christian travels to Oakdale this afternoon to face Johansen in the Oakdale Rotary Holiday Classic at 3:30.
