The junior running back tied a school record in the Timberwolves’ tumultuous homecoming game.
Sierra hosted Modesto last Friday at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium, but the game was stopped late in the second quarter because of an alleged gun sighting. The contest resumed Monday with 5 minutes, 11 seconds left in the opening half, and Grady continued his hot start from Friday.
“I’m a confident person, so I always felt like I would have a bigger game than I did on Friday,” Grady said. “That’s what I was coming in with today.”
Grady totaled seven touchdowns, finishing with 192 yards on 25 rushes with an additional 112 yards on six receptions. One of the TDs was a 55-yard pass play that helped jump start Sierra’s dominant second-half effort. He had touchdown runs of 16, 24, 2, 34, 27 and 37 yards.
What started as a back-and-forth battle ended in a rout, as the T’wolves, who led 30-27 at halftime, went on a 23-0 run in the third quarter.
Anthony Cota (2012 vs. Grace Davis) and Mark Paule (2014 vs. Ripon) are the former Sierra standouts to score seven touchdowns in a single game.
“He was a workhorse tonight,” Sierra coach Jeff Harbison said Monday. “When somebody does something like that, you also have to look at the offensive line. The offensive line opened some big holes for him, but he did run hard and took on tacklers and pushed the pile.”
Grady also acknowledged the work of his lineman, saying, “I wouldn’t have the amount of yards and touchdowns that I did without them.”
The offensive line consisted of Alexander Valentine-Torres, Jax Ballard, Shomari McKnight, Brock Felt, Alan Gonzalez and Frank Teicheira.
Sierra (1-3) concludes its pre-league schedule this Friday at undefeated Golden Valley.
