ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Annie Wild, cross country
AOW Annie Wild

The Indians’ standout harrier appears prime to make a third appearance at the California Interscholastic Federation State Championships.

On Saturday, Wild dominated 3-mile varsity grace in the Thunder XC Classic held at Lake Yosemite, winning in 18 minutes, 13.4 seconds. The next closest runner checked in 53 seconds later, and the Indians edged out Madera for the championship.

It’s the fourth meet win of the season for Wild, who previously took first in the Bret Harte Frogtown Invitational small-school division title and in the first two Trans-Valley League cluster meets. She has placed in the top 10 in eight of the nine meets she has entered.

Wild and Ripon are back in action this Saturday in the Flat SAC Invitational at Gibson Ranch Regional Park. They’ll look to complete their run to another TVL championship next Wednesday at River Bluff Regional Park in Ceres.

Wild was named All-Area Girls Runner of the Year after taking sixth in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV race and 39th at the state meet.
