The Buffaloes (4-1, 10-11 overall) separated themselves as a top-three contender in the Valley Oak League with their wins over rival East Union and Patterson last week.
Peringelil played a big part in both outcomes with his two-way contributions.
The 6-foot senior wing forward netted 25 points, nine rebounds and three steals in three quarters of play, as Manteca routed East Union 58-42 at home on Jan. 15. Two nights later, the Buffaloes traveled to Patterson and led wire-to-wire in a 78-54 victory. Peringelil scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half while pulling down another nine boards.
Manteca is now tied for second place going into its home tilt against league-leading Central Catholic tonight. The top three finishers earn automatic berths to the playoffs.
“Joe means so much to our team,” Manteca coach Geoff Israel said. “What people do not realize is he is a great defender and rebounder. He opens up a lot of opportunities for his teammates.”
Manteca also played Saturday in the Miramonte MLK Showcase, falling short against Willow Glen of San Jose, 67-55. Peringelil produced 17 points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists.
