In just her second year of ever playing flag football, Barnes enjoys getting to play on every down.
“I love playing both sides,” she said. “This sport is everything to me.”
The multi-talented junior is one of the most productive two-way players in the Sac-Joaquin Section, and she continued to put her many skills on display last week when the Timberwolves (19-5) clinched the first Valley Oak League championship outright with a sweep of dangerous Oakdale.
In the two-set opener on Tuesday, Oct. 22, she helped ignite the offense with 115 yards on six receptions and added a 36-yard run. Although she was kept out of the end zone, she did convert on a two-point try. Defensively, she had three tackles and an interception.
Two days later, at Oakdale, Barnes erupted for 152 yards and two touchdowns on 10 catches. She added one more interception to her overall season tally of 23, which is third most in the SJS. Her 1,874 yards and 34 touchdowns also rank highly in the section.
“It’s super exciting,” she said of contributing to the team’s league title run. “We get to put a banner in the gym and have our year up there. We started that. We made history.”
