Oscar Angel and Christian Gonzalez are going back to the state meet.
They punched their tickets this past Saturday in the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships at Willow Hill Reservoir Community Park in Folsom.
Angel, a Manteca High senior, competed in one of the fastest races of the day. He placed sixth in Division II in 15 minutes, 51.5 seconds. Ahead of him were four runners from runaway D-II team champion Jesuit, including first-place Isaac Abbott (15:30.6).
The top three teams and 10 fastest individuals in each varsity race earn medals. The California Interscholastic Federation Championships is on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Woodward Park in Fresno.
In Division IV boys, Gonzalez paced a contingent of Sierra harriers to an eighth-place finish. Individually, he took third in 16:08.6 behind Peter Kendall (15:56.3) of Twelve Bridges and Rowan Henry (16:04.9) of Nevada Union.
Ernesto Pacheco (39th, 17:52.2), Rishabh Gopal (47th, 18:06.1), Manuel Alvarez (53rd, 18:23.6) and Max Perez (58th, 18:36.9) were also scorers for Sierra.
Freshman Anna Dittman led the Sierra girls with a 23rd-place finish in 20:56.0. The Timberwolves were seventh as a team, with scoring contributions from Monse Saavedra (34th, 21:42.7), Serena Dittman (36th, 21:48.0), Ashlyn Springer (48th, 22:23.1) and Haley Hill (53rd, 22:38.7).
Representing Lathrop in Division III were Riley Gier (43rd, 17:59.) in the boys race and Jacquelyn Pena Santillan (46th, 22:14.5) in the girls.
Ripon fielded teams in Division IV, as the boys placed 10th while the girls came in ninth.
The Indians’ top boys were Isaiah Green (18th, 17:31.5), Moses Gomez (45th, 18:35.7), Miguel Acosta-Pearson (48th, 18:38.8), Milan Chun (57th, 18:55.4) and Cade Vallee (68th, 19:52.1).
Leading the Ripon girls were Mallory Govia (42nd, 22:20.4), Izabella Rodriguez (46th, 22:42.5), Malia Locarnini (49th, 22:44.9), Kember Duncan (50th, 22:44.9) and Kyla Agbayani-Duenas (60th, 23:45.8).
River Islands’ girls placed seventh in Division V, with scoring coming from Octavia Orndoff (37th, 26:06.9), Srika Saddapalli (42nd, 27:45.3), Helen Le (45th, 27:55.5), Sarah Le (46th, 28:09.2) and Yasaswini Pattangi (48th, 28:27.5).
On the boys side, Ripon Christian finished 10th in Division V. The Knights’ top five were Joel Hendricks (28th, 19:29.0), Ethan Vander Plaats (49th, 20:35.2), Jackson Anema (63rd, 21:29.4), Colton Roen (69th, 22:17.3) and Benton Bulthuis (72nd, 23:04.4).
In lower levels, five individuals from the area garnered top-eight medals, and River Islands won the Division V freshman title,
Manteca’s Paisley Coenenberg came in fifth in the Division II frosh-soph girls race, clocking in at 14:21.5. Adrian Vaye of Lathrop was fifth in Division III sophomore boys in 12:10.6.
The River Islands freshman boys were led by medalists Moses Calixto (third, 14:35.7), Darshan Shyamsundar (sixth, 15:03.9) and John Engaling (seventh, 15:05.7). Aahlad Bysani (ninth, 15:40.6) and Puneeth Lekkalapudi (10th, 15:46.1) rounded out scoring for the Riptide.
