East Union tied for second with Kimball in the fourth and final Valley Oak League boys golf tournament Monday at the par-72 Manteca Park Golf Course under rainy and windy conditions.

The Lancers tallied a 461 with Oakdale shooting 431. The Mustangs’ Cooper Pitney earned low medalist honors at 78, one of two Oakdale golfers at 80 or better.

Tony Agueda paced the Lancers with an 81 followed by Cooper Rossi (86), Zane Salgado (97), Jayden Lopez (98) and Nolan Mix (99).

“I just tried to go out there and do my best,” Rossi said. “The conditions weren’t really the best but I tried to make the best of it.

“The wind was kind of brutal. I made a couple of bad shots but recovered with my short game which has been pretty good this year. I hit a couple of good drives in the fairway and on the 11th I actually chipped in for a birdie. That was a plus. Aside from one triple bogie I had a pretty good round.”

Manteca’s No. 6 Tyler Watkins shot a 94 to lead the Buffaloes to fourth-place finish at 519. Zenon Garay chipped in a 97 followed by Conner DePrater (101), Xavier Hernandez (109) and Dakota Murillo (118).

“This was my best outing this season,” Watkins said. “I shot a 106 last time.

“I had a couple of wind shots in the fairway that worked out for me but I think my chipping game was pretty good.”

Sierra finished tied for fifth with Central Catholic at 567 and Weston Ranch was not able to field a complete team.

Konnor Spears led the Timberwolves with a 101 followed by Aiden Hillard at 113, James Musquiz and Carson Murray with 117 apiece and David Graves (119).

“I feel like I could have done better,” Spears said. “I shot a nine on a par 3 when I normally shoot a four. It could have been around a 96 or 97.

“The rain was bad early on and then the wind picked up. That made things challenging but then I started getting some birdies and pars. Toward the end I started to play a lot better.”

The Valley Oak League Championships will be Monday, May 2, at the Creekside Golf Course in Modesto.
