Lathrop’s junior hurdler is ramping up for the postseason.
He showed well this past Saturday in the Sacramento Meet of Champions, winning the Open Division 300-meter hurdles while taking third in the Open 110 hurdles. His 300 time of 38.82 seconds is a new personal and school record. He also clocked his all-time second best mark in the 110 in 14.70 seconds.
Siga is the reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV in both hurdle events.
“He ran a great race in Sacramento with a new PR and crushed his coach’s old school record a 2nd time this season,” Lathrop coach Krystle Davis said. Davis added this Siga’s extra work with hurdles coach Michael Ramos, a former track standout at Lathrop, has helped shave time.
“Last year, he was just competing,” Davis said. “This year, we did more weight training, and he started watching more technique videos with his hurdle coach, former alumni Michael Ramos. He has become a student of the event, trying new things.
“Before this week, he was taking it easy on the curve of the 300 hurdles, because he kept hurdling off balance and hitting those hurdles. I told him if you want a sub-40 (time), you cannot take it easy. You have to figure it out with the speed.”
Earlier last week, the Spartans had a make-up meet at Los Banos. Siga took second in the 100, won the 300 hurdles and was part of the wining 4x100 relay.
