The area’s two best offensive linemen along with two record-breaking skill position players have been selected to compete in the 41st Central California Lions All-Star Football Game.

Three of them are representing Manteca High, the Sac-Joaquin Section’s Division III champion that made its first-ever CIF Northern California Bowl Game appearance. University of Mary-bound teammates Isaac McClain and Billy Sharmoug will have another opportunity to block for Manteca’s all-time single-season touchdown scorer Alex Laurel on Saturday, June 14 at Tracy High’s Wayne Schneider Stadium.

Joining the trio of Buffaloes is Sierra’s Lucas Widmer, whose 1,012 yards and 12 touchdowns from last fall are new school records.

The four local standouts are playing for the North team, which is 24-15-1 and 8-2 in the last 10 years. Leading the North is Tokay head coach Louis Franklin, who previously served as offensive coordinator for Weston Ranch. Merced High’s Rob Scheidt heads the South.

Players and coaches selected for the event were introduced at the annual Lions All-Star Banquet this past Saturday at the Stockton Italian Athletic Club. Serving as guest speaker is Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl long snapper Matt Overton, a graduate of Tracy High. 

The first 38 Lions All-Star Games were held at The University of the Pacific’s Stagg Memorial Stadium, and the last two were hosted at Modesto Junior College. Pre-game festivities of this year’s event begin at 6 p.m. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7.
