Twelve Bridges scored on its first three plays from scrimmage, and the rout was on in a 63-7 win over ninth-seeded Sierra in a Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV quarterfinal last Friday in Lincoln.
The visiting Timberwolves (6-6) had opportunities to score early but had three drives end in TB territory, which included a goal-line stand by the top-seeded Raging Rhinos (11-0) at the end of the first half. Sierra, down 49-0, could not punch it in on two run plays from the 1-yard line.
Twelve Bridges standout running back Braeden Ward had 203 yards and three touchdowns on just five carries all in the first half. Quarterback Connor Flaherty hit on five of six passes for 190 yards and two scores.
All told, the Raging Rhinos rumbled for 559 yards of offense.
Sierra’s lone score came in the fourth quarter when Zak Willson connected with Trevor Sutton for a 13-yard pass play. Willson was 14 of 25 for 167 yards in the first half but had two interceptions. Twelve Bridges added a third pick in the second half shortly after Cole Martin came reeled in an interception for the Timberwolves.
Sierra junior receiver A.J. Chapman left the game with an injury after a catch that got his team to the 1-yard line in the final seconds of the first half. He ended with 58 yards on five catches. Seniors Tali Vaipuna and Santana Stevenson finished as Sierra’s top receivers overall.
Twelve Bridges will face Foothill Valley League rival and No. 4 seed Placer (9-2) this upcoming Friday in the semifinals.
