ROUNDUP: Spartans secure outright WAC championship, RC falls at Orestimba

 Lathrop used a balanced attack Friday to clinch the outright Western Athletic Conference championship with a convincing 34-6 win over host Central Valley.

Pablo Pena gained 80 yards on 13 carries with a 4-yard touchdown run to lead the ground game for the Spartans (6-0 WAC, 8-1 overall). Chris Ramos (six carries, 61 yards; one reception, 25 yards) added a 1-yard touchdown run; Jordan Blasé scored from 1 yard out and threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Richard Felina (two carries, 46 yards) and Andre Muqhar (seven carries, 37 yards) capped the night’s scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run.

The Hawks (0-6, 1-8) scored in the fourth period on a 2-yard pass from Edgar Peralta to Pahulu Anitelea.

Lathrop rounds out the WAC campaign next Friday, hosting Beyer at 7 p.m.


Orestimba 21, Ripon Christian 17

The host Warriors (2-3 Trans Valley League, 6-3 overall) scored the lone touchdown of the second half for the come-from-behind win.

Mason Tameling was 14-of-23 passing totaling 161 yards for the Knights (1-4, 4-5) with touchdown throws of 21 yards to Amos Cady (three receptions, 39 yards) and 33 yards to Josh Miller (seven receptions, 75 yards). Aaron Van Hofwegen booted a 32-yard field goal and Lushen Sanders added 41 yards on eight carries.

Ripon’s Blake Stuit made nine tackles and an interception. Miller, Chase Bunnell, E.J. Bruno and Matthew Chapman added six stops apiece with five for Carson Cho.

The Knights wrap up the TVL schedule next Friday when they host Sonora at 7 p.m.
