LIVINGSTON — With Friday’s 28-10 road win over Livingston, Lathrop claimed at least a share of the Western Athletic Conference championship, giving the Spartans their first league title at the varsity level.

Lathrop (5-0 WAC, 7-1 overall) used a balanced attack to handle the Wolves (3-2, 4-4). Pablo Pena led the Spartans with 65 yards on 13 carries, including a 6-yard touchdown run. Chris Ramos (12 carries, 59 yards) and Andre Muqhar (nine carries, 49 yards) assisted in the Lathrop attack with Sean Teu scoring on a 1-yard plunge. Jordan Blasé was 4 of 9 passing for 54 yards with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Chris Ramos.

Pena paced the defense with six tackles. Eliseo Lopez added four stops and Teu three.

Livingston’s Luis Sandoval kicked a field goal and teammate Mathias Sandoval scored on a 5-yard run.

Next Friday the Spartans travel to Central Valley before closing out the WAC schedule at home against Beyer on Friday, Nov. 1. A win in either of the final two games – with those opponents being a combined 3-11 coming into Friday night – will clinch the outright WAC title for Lathrop.

River Islands 46, Bret Harte 35

ANGELS CAMP — The first-year varsity Riptide (1-4, 2-6 overall) celebrated its first-ever Mother Lode League win Friday, setting a new team scoring record in the process.

Sophomore fullback Alex Henry led the way, rushing for more than 150 yards and four touchdowns. Idrees Elfarra added three TDs, two rushing and one receiving. Quarterback George Dayeh connected with Elfarra for the 60-yard TD reception.

River Islands established a 32-6 lead late in the second quarter, but the winless Bullfrogs (0-4, 0-7) were able to cut the deficit to 10, 39-29, following a two-point conversion with about eight minutes left.

The Riptide put it away on the next drive with Henry’s fourth touchdown scamper.

Michael Figueroa highlighted River Islands’ defense with three interceptions. Jaiveer Grewal recovered two fumbles.
