ROUNDUP: Cervantez returns two kickoffs for TDs, as Sierra JV drubs Lathrop

Daryl Carpenter threw for three touchdowns to lead Sierra’s JV team to a 41-12 non-league win over Lathrop on Friday night.

Carpenter (9 of 14 passing, 188 yards) connected for touchdown throws of 55 yards to Jimmy Burns, 25 yards to Marcus Zeiher (three receptions, 56 yards) and 9 yards to Darien East (two receptions, 16 yards; eight carries, 95 yards).

East added another touchdown on a 9-yard run. Alberto Cervantez scored on kickoff returns of 72 and 80 yards.

Damien Densmore paced the Sierra defense with seven tackles and was followed by six for Mateo Munoz, five apiece for Zeiher, Angel Land and Kian Mejia (interception) and four for Cervantez.

Ekem Sohal (18 carries, 120 yards) scored both Spartans touchdowns on a 3-yard pass from D.J. Reyno to draw Lathrop within 7-6, and on the last play of the running-clock game on a 5-yard run. Keonie Green added 86 yards on 11 carries.

Green and Damian Hermosillo paced the Lathrop defense with four tackles each, and Reyes Guerrero added three stops.


Manteca 12, Elk Grove 6

With 47 seconds left in the game, Jeremiah Orona hit JuJu Ramirez with a 29-yard touchdown pass to give the Buffaloes the win.

Roman Duvernay (12 carries, 57 yards) gave Manteca a 6-0 lead in the second period on a 3-yard run. Manual Lopez posted 75 yards on nine carries and Orona was 5 of 9 passing for 120 yards.

Ramirez (61 yards) and William Brown (47 yards) each had two receptions.

Dean Sortonis made six tackles for Manteca, Luke Avila five and C.J. Jimenez (forced fumble) four. Logan Yagi forced a Thundering Herd fumble to end the game.


Ripon Christian 27, Summerville 8

Jax Booth scored a pair for touchdowns for the Knights.

Booth (11 carries, 57 yards) scored on 1- and 4-yard runs. Tyler Van Elderen (six carries, 34 yards) scored on a 1-yard run, Noah DeBruyn returned an interception 5 yards for a score, and Talen Tameling notched a safety.

Stadtler Postma was 7 of 9 passing for 59 yards, with Tameling gaining 37 yards on three receptions while carrying the ball six times for 48 yards. DeBruyn added 45 yards on four carries.

Ripon Christian’s Myles Pollard made five tackles and forced a fumble. Brayden Hughes and

Jack De Jong added four stops apiece with three each for Josiah Van Vliet and Noah Costa. Matthew Trejos recovered a fumble.


Ripon 48, Linden 13

The Indians led 34-0 at halftime.

Ripon’s Andrew Shaw, Matthew Gains and Kael Rangel each scored two touchdowns. Shaw (4 for 6 passing, 58 yards) had touchdown throws of 10 yards to Gavin Decena (three receptions, 20 yards) and 38 yards to Jude Viss. Gaines (7 carries, 99 yards) scored on runs of 15 and 58 yards, and Rangel (three carries, 69 yards) scored on a 43-yard run and on a 24-yard pass from Anthony Alves. Ace Dougherty (three carries, 36 yards) rounded out the Indians’ scoring parade with a 10-yard touchdown run.

Ripon’s Ben Vita made five tackles and a pass deflection, Marco Arroyo snagged an interception with Dylan Parker, Xabriel Reyes and Jude Viss all contributing on defense.
