SAN ANDREAS – The Ripon Chiefs junior varsity concluded its undefeated march through the Motherlode Valley Football League on Saturday with a 47-8 shellacking of Hughson in the MVFL Super Bowl at Calaveras High School.
The Huskies did not score until the final play of the game.
“I am extremely proud of how this team handled their business all year,” Chiefs coach Neil MacDannald said. “They are hard-working and talented which is a great combination to work with.
“They deserve this championship. We played our best game in the biggest game, which is an intangible you can’t teach. Our first half was the best half of football we’ve played all year, nearly perfect.”
Xazvier Clark (two receptions, 45 yards; two carries, 28 yards) scored three touchdowns three different ways – on a 29-yard punt return, a 20-yard pass from Garrison Reis (5 for 8 passing, 64 yards) and a 17-yard run.
Reis and Kaden MacDannald (eight carries, 46 yards) each scored on a 1-yard run, Tyler-Paul Wentworth (eight carries, 58 yards) added a 4-yard touchdown run and Jesus Ochoa rounded out the
Ripon scoring parade with a 3-yard scamper.
Fernando Alaniz made 10 tackles and forced a fumble for the Chiefs while Seth Van Dyk blocked a punt, recovered a fumble and made eight tackles. Reis made eight stops, Ochoa six, Wentworth and Clark five apiece, Canaan Clark three and Quinn Martinez (tipped pass), MacDannald and Caden Roduner two apiece.
