STOCKTON — Never mind the stats.

The only numbers that Manteca High coach Mark Varnum cares about are the ones on the scoreboard.

His Buffaloes put up some big ones Friday at Spanos Stadium, routing Lincoln 65-6 in non-league play.

"That was a big bounce-back game for us following last week's tough loss (to Marin Catholic)," Varnum said.

The numbers were once again great for Manteca's sophomore running back Nikko Juarez, who racked up a game-high 156 yards on 15 carries and a pair of touchdowns.

Elijah Stevenson also scored twice, picking up 66 yards on seven touches.

Not to be overshadowed was the Buffalo defense led by the likes of Isiah White and Josiah Sagapolu. For added measures, Alijah Hawkins got into the act late in the game, scoring on a 38-yard fumble recovery.

Manteca (3-1) didn't take long to get on the scoreboard — try two plays and a Trojan penalty, capped by Juarez's 21-yard run from the right side of the line.

The Buffalo offense got back on the field following a quick three-and-out by the defense.

This drive covered 45 yards and was finished off by Juarez's 8-yard run. Quinn Martinez's 11-yard gain kept the drive alive.

Martinez added to the tally, hauling in Owen Gully's 27-yard pass in the end zone. Juarez, who had his second two-point conversion run in the quarter, made it a 22-0 advantage.

Manteca continued its dominance in the second quarter.

Gully slung a 9-yard scoring strike to Nate Slikker.

It didn't take long for Stevenson to follow that up with a 17-yard scamper.

Just before the half, Maava Tialavea powered his way on a short touchdown run.

Leading 44-0, the Buffaloes added yet another score in the third quarter on Stevenson's second TD from a yard out.

Lincoln (2-3) finally broke through with freshman quarterback Kenneth Lee Simmon finding wide receiver Donald Sellers III on a short touchdown toss.

Up 51-6 with a running clock, Buffalo quarterback Preston Smith, who scored an earlier PAT run, connected with Carlos Flores for a 16-yard TD.

"We were back and playing clean, hard-hitting Manteca High football," said Varnum as his team gets ready for Valley Oak League play. The Buffaloes open with reigning champion Central Catholic at Lathrop High.
