Manteca shuts out Sierra JV, frosh

Preston Smith threw two touchdown passes and Quinn Martinez posted a pair of rushing touchdowns to lead Manteca to a convincing 48-0 shutout over Sierra in Valley Oak League junior varsity action on Friday.

Smith (8 for 14 passing, 131 yards; one carry, 21 yards) had touchdown throws of 2 yards to Andrew Hernandez and 20 yards to Santana Stevenson (four receptions, 103 yards). Martinez (11 carries, 76 yards) scored on runs of 4 and 31 yards, Nikolas Ellks scored from 27 yards out and Demarie Long posted an 8-yard touchdown run.

Anthony Garcia led the Buffaloes defense with five tackles. Ruben Moreno (forced fumble) and Tyler Watkins added three tackles each and Johan Peringelli deflected a pass.

 

Freshman

Manteca 46, Sierra 0

Owen Gully tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Devon Richardson for the Buffaloes on Thursday.

Gully (6 of 7 passing, 97 yards) and Richardson (two receptions, 51 yards) connected on scoring plays of 22 and 29 yards. Carson Sablan (six carries, 89 yards) posted a 37-yard touchdown run,

Jhadis Luckey (seven carries, 78 yards) scored on a 44-yard run, Gael Juarez scored from 24 yards out and Maava Tialavea had a 9-yard touchdown run.

Logan Pool led the Manteca defense with six tackles with Luckey making four tackles and two interceptions.

 

East Union 30, Oakdale 12

Kirk Simoni threw four touchdown passes for the Lancers.

Simoni (19 of 26 passing, 296 yards) hit Jackson Fay (seven catches, 103 yards) with 18- 24-yard touchdown passes in the first half. Then Brayden Camara forced an Oakdale fumble that was recovered by Michael Pires to set up Simoni’s third touchdown throw of the first half, this one of 24 yards to Camara (five receptions, 78 yards) in the closing seconds of the second quarter.

Simoni hit Pires with a 17-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and late in the game the East Union defense came up big again. Anthony Oteri picked off a Mustangs pass and returned it 42 yards to set up a touchdown run by Jeremy A’pe (nine carries, 41 yards).

Oteri made four receptions for 83 yards and Shane Foreman also contributed to the offense.

Robert Gaston led the Lancers defense with 11 tackles. Chris Gallego added 10 stops, Tony Garza nine, Camara eight and Pires four.
