Manteca crushes East Union in JV, frosh games

Manteca scored on its first and last plays Friday night and quite a few in between in a 76-8 thumping of East Union in junior varsity Valley Oak League action at Guss Schmiedt Field.

Micah Cardoza scored his first of three touchdowns when he returned the opening kickoff 87 yards for a score. He added an 81-yard touchdown catch from Owen Gully (4 of 5 passing, 136 yards) and a 40-yard touchdown run. Cooper Chamberlain capped the night’s scoring with a 33-yard touchdown with 90 seconds left on the game’s running clock.

Elijah Stevenson (11 carries, 185 yards) scored on 1-, 6-, 49- and 86-yards runs. Kyrin Barajas (five carries, 115 yards) added an 80-yard touchdown run and Jose Rios returned a punt 50 yards for a score.  

Logan Pool and Jose Rios made six tackles apiece for the Buffaloes defense that posted four sacks in the second period. Robert Nelson and Matheiu Evans added three stops apiece, Mateo Esparza made an interception and Matix Cardoza recovered an onside kick.

Peyton Heath (7 of 25 passing, 162 yards, touchdown, interception) hit Shane Foreman with a 2-yard touchdown pass midway through the first period to bring the Lancers within 14-8. Christian Dell’Osso made three receptions for 98 yards and Daniel Grijalva pulled in one catch for 47 yards with Shane Lewis, Shane Foreman, Oaktavio Nunez and Hoku Ap’e contributing on offense.
Ap'e made 11 tackles, Jose Guizar three with two each for Garrett Hicks, Gabe Lopez and Shane Lewis with defensive contributions from Michael Piers, Seth Carlson, Kaleb Gama and Anthony Zavala.

 

Lathrop 21, Johansen 6

Treyvon Santos ran for two Spartans touchdowns and he returned the second-half kickoff for a touchdown in Western Athletic Conference action. 

Santos (seven carries, 44 yards) posted touchdown runs of 2 and 32 yards. Humza Habibi added 57 yards on 10 carries with offensive contributions from Maddox Ramos, Souvanny Tuy, Prabhjot Chahal and Eliseo Lopez.

Ramos and Malakai Dunn led the Lathrop defense with three tackles each and two apiece for Santos, Landen Nolte, Christian Erazo and Rueben Lopez. Habibi, Eliseo Lopez, Julian Contreras and Angelo Esqueda all contributed on defense.

 

Ripon Christian 42, Mariposa 0

The Knights scored all of their points in the first half of the Southern Athletic League contest.

Four different Ripon Christian players scored. Danny Lambdin (two receptions, 93 yards) scored two touchdowns in the second period on a 31-yard interception return and on a 30-yard pass from Josiah Van Vliet (8 of 9 passing, interception) and one in the first period on a 63-yard pass from Chase Bunnell.

Lushen Sanders (six carries, 31 yards) scored on a 4-yard run, Dax Biedleman added a 6-yard touchdown run and Noah DeBruyn had a 3-yard scoring run. Carson Cho, Aaron Van Hofwegen,

Dylan Segaar, Blake Stuit and Mason Clark all contributed on offense.

Van Hofwegen (interception) and Sanders made seven tackles each, Jack DeJong five, Chase Bunnell (two blocked punts) and Matt Dyk four each with an interception apiece for Lambdin and Isaac Venema.

 

Freshman

Manteca 41, East Union 0

David Grisham ran for nearly 200 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Buffaloes.

Grisham (12 carries, 198 yards) scored on runs of 11 and 60 yards along with a 75-yard interception returned for a score. Jaylin Harris ended the game with a 67-yard return of an interception for a touchdown. Josiah Martinez scored on an 8-yard run and Erick Cortez added a 23-yard touchdown scamper.

Dean Sortonis led the Manteca defense with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery. Abel Garcia, Josiah Martinez and Jayden Harris made five tackles each with four apiece for Lucas Ruiz, Cortez and Jovany Roa, three for Grisham and two for Jerimiah Orona (interception).

After eight games the Buffaloes have racked up 299 points and given up just 26 points.

 

Lathrop 48, Johansen 0

Jonah Hernandez led the Spartans to a romp with Lathrop outgaining the Vikings 347 yards to just 12.

Hernandez (eight carries, 122 yards) scored on 1-, 25- and 42-yard runs. Elijah Munoz (five carries, 46 yards) added a 20-yard touchdown run, Ekam Sohal (five carries, 41 yards) scored from 28 yards out, Gabriel Esqueda (four carries, 39 yards) had a 32-yard touchdown run and    

Joseph Cervantez added an 11-yard touchdown run. Xavier Avila chipped in 47 yards on four carries and Aleksel Sanchez had two carries for 18 yards.
