LOWER LEVELS: Shaw, Ripon run all over Ripon Christian in JV thumping

Andrew Shaw ran for three touchdowns and threw for one Friday night to lead Ripon to a 48-14 Trans-Valley League win over host Ripon Christian in junior varsity football action.

Shaw (nine carries, 138 yards) scored on runs of 2, 62 and 63 yards, while connecting with Jude Viss on a 25-yard touchdown pass.

Matthew Gaines (four carries, 62 yards) added touchdown runs of 24 and 34 yards, and Kael Rangel capped the night’s scoring with a 2-yard touchdown plunge.

Ace Dougherty chipped in 153 yards on 10 carries for Ripon (1-2 TVL, 5-2 overall).

Talen Tameling (four receptions, 101 yards) scored for the Knights (1-2, 5-2) on a 10-yard run, and Josiah Van Vliet (8 of 15 passing, 165 yards) scampered 81 yards for a touchdown.

Van Vliet made seven tackles, Jack De Jong five with four apiece for Tameling and Jax Booth.


Manteca 43, Mountain House 12

Jeremiah Orona threw for three touchdowns and ran one in for the visiting Buffaloes (2-1 Valley Oak League, 5-1-1) at Guss Schmiedt Field.

Orona (7 of 9 passing, 128 yards) threw touchdown passes of 21 and 40 yards to JuJu Ramirez and 9 yards to Madden Melendez (two receptions, 30 yards), and ran a touchdown in from 7 yards out.

Luke Avila (11 carries, 116 yards; two receptions, 33 yards) added a 1-yard touchdown run and Roman Duvernay chipped in 65 yards on eight carries.

Ramirez highlighted the Manteca defense when he returned one of his two touchdowns 101 yards for a touchdown.

Avila made seven tackles, Richie Robledo (fumble recovery) five and Misael Rodriguez four. Camron Spino added an interception.

The Mustangs drop to 1-3, 4-4.


Lathrop 36, Johansen 20

One week after leading for the first time all season, the Spartans (1-2-1 Western Athletic Conference, 1-5-1), fought back from a 14-0 deficit, and thanks to the pounding running of Jayden White scored the next 30 points to post the first Lathrop win of the year at Bennie Gatto Field.

White (13 carries, 194 yards) scored on 1-, 4-, 19- and 56-yard runs, with his 19-yard touchdown run being set up by Ekam Suhal’s fumble recovery. D.J. Reyno started the Spartans scoring parade with a 14-yard touchdown run late in the first period. Reyes Guerrero added 46 yards on 11 carries.

Aiden Remonida led the Lathrop defense with six tackles and Angel Prado added three.

The Vikings drop to 1-3, 1-6.


Freshman

Manteca 48, Mountain House 0

Brody Carabello was in on five touchdowns for the visiting Buffaloes (2-1, 5-1-1) on Thursday.

Carabello (11 of 15 passing, 151 yards; five carries, 67 yards) connected with touchdown passes of 8 and 14 yards to Bode Hiatt (six receptions, 81 yards) and 18 yards to Jesse Garibay. Carabello added touchdown runs of 13 and 19 yards. Brixton Menchaca-Ortiz (two carries, 47 yards) added a 33-yard touchdown run, and Ka’ron Grisham (four carries, 27 yards) scored from a yard out. Josiah Moreno chipped in 52 yards on four receptions.

Camden Rodgers (safety) and Hiatt made six tackles apiece. Menchaca-Ortiz made four stops with three apiece for Isaiah Harding and Anthony Newell. Brandon Maravilla made an interception and Anthony Morales-Jones contributed to the defense.

The Mustangs drop to 1-3, 2-6.


Central Catholic 41, East Union 6

The Raiders (3-0, 5-1) scored in every quarter, and the Lancers (2-2, 4-3) got on the board in the fourth with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Max Abrew to Urijah Lopez at Dino Cunial Stadium.

Abrew was 14 of 22 passing for 95 yards. Adrian Sena added 104 yards on 22 carries and Lopez chipped in 34 yards on three receptions.

East Union’s Urijah Lopez and Gunnar Fay contributed on defense.


Lathrop 19, Johansen 0

Randal Wright sparked the offense for the visiting Spartans (4-0, 5-2), throwing for two touchdowns and running for one.

Wright connected for touchdown passes of 25 yards to Jaylen Santos (nine carries, 58 yards) and 43 yards to Eshan Clair, and he ran in a score from 3 yards out. Didier Lofaho added 40 yards on nine carries and Cesar Valerio contributed to the offense.

Joshua Talalele led the Lathrop defense with four tackles and blocked punt. Eshan Clair added three tackles and an interception while Dario Joseph forced and recovered a fumble and made an interception.

The Vikings drop to 1-3, 2-4.
