Duvernay’s defensive TD highlights Manteca JV win over Marin Catholic

Manteca’s Roman Duvernay ran for two touchdowns and picked off a lateral and returned it for another to help lead Manteca to a 29-13 win over visiting Marin Catholic on Friday at Guss Schmiedt Field.

Duvernay (18 carries, 69 yards) scored on runs of 2 and 4 yards and snagged a Wildcats lateral and returned it 57 yards for a touchdown. Luke Avila (six carries, 44 yards) added a 7-yard scoring run. Jeremiah Orona was 6 of 6 passing for 84 yards. JuJu Ramirez added 38 yards on four receptions.

Logan Yagi led the Buffaloes (3-0) with four tackles while Ramirez (interception), Duvernay and Richie Robledo made three stops apiece.

Marin Catholic drops to 1-2.


East Union 23, Enochs 8

Peyton Heath saved the best for last for the Lancers.

With East Union (2-1) trailing 8-0 going into the fourth quarter, Heath led the Lancers to three touchdowns. Heath (9 of 14 passing, 104 yards; 10 carries 45 yards) threw touchdown passes of 20 yards to Erick Cortez (nine carries, 56 yards) and 25 yards to Ricky Soria, while adding the exclamation point on a 1-yard scoring plunge. Chase Kalin added 51 yards on four receptions.

East Union’s Damian Delgadillo (forced fumble), Shane Saenz (fumble recovery) and Maddox Morales made eight tackles each with five apiece for Cortez (interception) and Jesse Martinez (interception).


Sierra 22, Sheldon 22

Darien East ran for two touchdowns for the Timberwolves (3-0-1).

East ran for 55 yards on nine carries. Daryl Carpenter was 11 of 14 passing for 172 yards with a touchdown pass to Issac Kempf (four receptions, 107 yards).

The Huskies drop to 0-3-1.


Freshmen

East Union 33, Enochs 8

Max Abrew threw for three touchdowns and ran for one for the Lancers (2-1).

Abrew (11 for 23 passing, 89 yards) threw touchdown passes of 10 and 13 yards to Jackson Frith (four receptions, 60 yards) and 19 yards to Caden Miller while running in a score from 1 yard out. Adrian Sena (11 carries, 67 yards) added a 7-yard touchdown run.

East Union’s Nathan Bettencourt made 11 tackles and a recovered a fumble. Frith and Logan Ortega added four tackles each while Gunnar Fay also contributed on defense.

The Wildcats drop to 1-3.
