If you want you install an electric vehicle charging station in Manteca — either in your home or for public use — you can apply to do so electronically.

And while there is already a checklist for what information you need to provide the city, the City Council on Tuesday will review a revised checklist that complies with a state mandate that needs to be in place for cities with less than 200,000 population by Sept. 30.

The state law is designed to make sure cities have expedited permitting process for electrical vehicle charging stations in place.

Manteca already has two public locations where electric powered vehicles may be charged. The first two were installed at the Manteca Transit Station on Moffat Boulevard at Main Street. Seven additional stations — including supercharging models — were put in place by Tecla last year at The Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley at Union Road and the 120 Bypass.

The content of the checklist requires the permit applicant to check the features of the existing electrical service such as rating in amperes, system voltage, connected or calculated load, spare capacity in amperes, voltage and ampere rating of the electric vehicle supply equipment, circuit rating of the electric vehicle supply equipment, location of the electric vehicle supply equipment, if ventilation is/or is not required, and clearances of the charging equipment to comply with all applicable building and fire safety laws.

The checklist also assists the applicant in confirming that the location of the electric vehicle supply equipment will comply with any vehicle clearance requirements in the City’s Zoning Ordinance.

By law, the checklist is based on the “Plug-In Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Permitting Checklist” of the “Zero-Emission Vehicles in California: Community Readiness Guidebook” of the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research.

The City Council meets Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center, 1001 W. Center St.
