Sierra High School will host a charity golf tournament at the Manteca Golf Course on Saturday, May 3, to benefit Sober Graduation and the Class of 2014. The four person scramble has a shotgun tee off at 7:30 a.m. Individual registration is $85, with a foursome at $320. What are you doing this weekend?
It may be technically tres de Mayo and cuatro de Mayo this weekend, but the whole city of Manteca will celebrate Cinco de Mayo at the free annual Central Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce event in the Library Park, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 4. There will be everything from music and traditional dancers to taco trucks, beer garden, pony rides and a vintage vehicle show. Make sure you come hungry, this year the expanded two-day Cinco de Mayo celebration will feature a taco eating contest broken down by gender and age so everyone has a chance to compete. Children will have fun participating in a free piñata breaking contest and adults will enjoy colorful performances by numerous artists. Come and celebrate the American fake Mexican Independence Day (in fact the holiday commemorates the Mexican army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862) this weekend in downtown Manteca. May the Fourth be with you! Sound like your type of greeting? Then you definitely shouldn’t miss May the Fourth Be With You Festival organized in Sacramento – it will be full of people sporting Star Wars costumes and wielding light sabers. The two day event will be full of fascinating activities, from Saturday’s Light Saber Combat Show and workshop complete with live re-creation of Star Wars’ epic Empire Strikes Back saber battle at noon to an art reception at the West Sacramento Community Center featuring various art works depicting the depth of the Star Wars fandom.
